Personality: Lord Bentaris is a mysterious individual who treasures his secrets above all else. He remains in the shadows and merely manipulates others to do his work. He has never actually fought himself in his entire life and for reasons unknown fears the Neo-Queen Serenity and the other survivors from the Moon Kingdom and their descendants.

Appearance: Bentaris is a muscular warrior with pale white skin and glowing red eyes.  He always wears a suit of black armor with large shoulder spikes, a billowing black cape, and protruding spikes from his helmet.  The armor is extremely thick, but surprisingly light.  Bentaris is generally seen sitting upon his strangely shaped black throne calmly watching his minions and their work.

Powers: Knows many magical spells and has many dark powers. Among his powers are telepathy, remote viewing, image projection, empower humans with nega-energy, create youma, mentally possess others, and most dangerously the creation of Shadow Senshi.

History

The story of Lord Bentaris goes back to before the rise of the Moon Kingdom.  Three thousand years ago Bentaris arrived in the Sol System to conqueror it.  The citizens resisted his influence, but his forces of youma and dark warriors were too powerful for ordinary humans to defeat, regardless of their home planet.

Early in the war the kingdom of the sun was destroyed by Bentaris and the small region that could be lived on was made into Bentaris's fortress and turned into a hostile terrain for humans.  The intense heat of the region and lack of access to the Sun's safe buildings made attacking Bentaris himself impossible.

Soon the people of the Sol System gave up on being able to defeat Bentaris and the planet's individual armies started to suffer unrepairable losses.  Bentaris was confident that his reign of rule was assured in this system.

Soon though a new force rose up against him.  Ten warriors, one representing each of the major powers in the system, joined forces and using their amazing powers hold his advancing armies back.  These warriors were called the Millenium Knights and soon they sought out a young woman from the planet Earth's moon.

The woman named Selenity was destined to be the future Queen of the Moon despite being a mere peasant.  The Millenium Knights and a reluctant Selenity seeked the aide of Setsuna Meiou, guardian of Time to help defeat their enemy.

Through much work they gathered the leaders of each of the individual planets and rallied all of the people behind them.  With the faith of the solar system's populance behind them and Selenity's desire to save her not only her solar system, but the galaxy, a new source of power was created.

This power was the Silver Imperium Crystal.  With the Crystal in hand Selenity, the Millenium Knights, and Sailor Pluto launched a final assault on Lord Bentaris himself.

After a fierce battle Selenity used the combined power of the Silver Imperium Crystal and the Millenium Knights to defeat Bentaris, and although he appeared to be slain.  The heroes returned and Selenity used the power of the Silver Crystal to erase the memories of Bentaris from everyone's mind, except her own and the Millenium Knights.

Soon after the battle Selenity married the Prince of the Moon, who also happened to be the Millenium Knight that represented the Moon and the Silver Millenium began.

Bentaris though was not destroyed by the final assault, although he nearly was.  He fled the battle during the final moments, but not before leaving behind the dark seed that would be birthed from the sun and become his son, the evil known as Chaos.

Watching from his sanctuary Bentaris recovered and worked at increasing his power.  From their he watched Chaos be defeated by Sailor Galaxia.  He watched as Galaxia was corrupted by Chaos and started her quest to conqueror the universe.  The event that pleased him most though was the fall of the Moon Kingdom and the destruction of all the kingdoms of the Sol System at the hands of Queen Metallia.

Then he cursed as Queen Serenity sent Princess Serenity and her court to the future where they could live on in peace.  Frustrated at the turn of events Bentaris used his power to intervene, causing one of the Moon Kingdom's warriors, the Imperium Knight to be reborn in the United States, thousands of miles from the other Senshi.

He also planned the release of Queen Metallia and her armies back into the world in the 20th century to destroy the Sailor Senshi, and end the legacy of the Moon Kingdom, already forgotten by most thanks to Bentaris's rewriting of history.  Metallia failed though.

He watched as the Senshi defeated the forces of Nemesis and Chaos's second child, the Doom Phantom in the present and then travelled to their enemies future only to return and destroy the Doom Phantom once and for all.

Then a new threat came from the future, the forces of the Pantheon.  Bentaris watched as the Senshi battled this new menace and were unable to overcome it, until a mysterious ally, the Imperium Knight arrived.  Even after the Pantheon's defeat he watched as the few survivors in the past ambushed the Inner Senshi and killed them, only to have the Imperium Knight, an enigma in time now, come back and save them.

Shortly after they defeated Pharoh 90, the Deathbusters, and then the Dead Moon Circus.  Then Bentaris laughed as Galaxia herself, still possessed by his son Chaos, arrived to destroy the Senshi.  He watched as one by one they fell, their Star Seeds stolen from them.

Then he cried out in anger as Princess Serenity turned Galaxia back to the side of good and nearly destroyed Bentaris's only son.  Reluctantly he watched as the Senshi were revived and their star seeds returned, he knew it was not yet the time to strike again.

He continued to watch the Senshi in hopes of finding allies among their enemies.  He watched as the Senshi battled the other-dimensional evil, Princess Arabia who suceeded in forcing the Imperium Knight to marry her, despite his love for Ami Mizumo, Sailor Mercury.

The Senshi emerged victorious though and instead he influenced a young sorcerer who called himself, Dragonbane.  This naive teenager used his mystical powers and the knowledge Bentaris allowed him to find to search out four of the the Senshi's former enemies and evolve them into the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse, and then he summoned the Apocalypse itself.

Bentaris thought he would finally see the fall of the Sailor Senshi but it was not to be.  The Senshi rallied together and with the help of their enemy, Lavos, and the Imperium Knight's forbidden Spirit Bomb managed to destroy Bentaris's greatest creation, the Apocalypse, which had taken over one million years for him to create.

His power once again shattered by the weilder of the Imperium Silver Crystal Bentaris sat back and watched as Lavos, the son of Queen Beryl, led the revived forces of the Negaverse against the Senshi in an attempt to resurrect his mother.  Lavos was defeated though, partially due to the the allies he had choosen and Bentaris watched as Crystal Tokyo rose.

The people of Crystal Tokyo defeated the invasion of Nemesis and the Pantheon and Bentaris decided the time had come to strike himself.  Freeing Lavos from his prison Bentaris created the first of his Shadow Senshi and started his assault on Crystal Tokyo, in hopes of destroying the Senshi and after that Neo-Queen Serenity and her Imperium Silver Crystal.

To this end Bentaris has tried many schemes, many of which have failed, but so far his most proud of his two greatest plans.  He brainwashed Ami Mizumo Satterlee, turning her against her husband and the Senshi and causing the Imperium Knight to give up his powers to break the spell he had over her.

His other triumphant was with his Shadow Senshi, Elly Houten who managed to brainwash Gaia, Mother of the Earth's guardian Phantom to his side.  *Phantom* has managed to not only assist in the outbreak of war between the U.S. and Japan, but also in forcing the Imperium Knight to be unable to fight after a Duel of Honor, that the Knight lost.
